”CAS” stands for Client Access Server and is an Exchange server role. All connections made to Exchange from clients other than RPC MAPI connections (Outlook on campus) go through these CAS servers. This means IMAP, ActiveSync, Outlook Anywhere and Outlook Web Access needs to point to these CAS servers and can be done so by using the address cas.shsu.edu. Because we cannot use pre-existing server names such as Exchange, SamMail, or ActiveSync (they are currently still in use on the old mail system), this is the name we chose to use until we can decommission the old systems and add these names to the new Exchange mail system.
In case anyone did not get the move email or have questions about how to access Exchange from home or from non-managed mail clients, here is the configuration information:
Unsecured IMAP and POP3 protocols are not supported on the new mail system.
If you are utilizing MS Outlook on a managed campus workstation it will reconfigure itself when you close and reopen it.
You can use Outlook 2007 off campus using Outlook Anywhere. Outlook will automatically discover the server settings.
Outlook Web Access: https://cas.shsu.edu/owa
If you are using a mail client other than Outlook your IMAP configuration is as follows:
If you sync your PDA phone via ActiveSync you will need to change your server (Please remember to accept the security policy that will be pushed to your phone.).
